27/12/2010 Ukrainian People, Ukrainian Writers

“Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book.”

And NGO people took this proverb “literally” as the city of Bila Tserkva on the 28th of November 2011 was positively surprised to find on its benches and cafes 12 free Ukrainian author books completely free, to promote reading Ukrainian among youngsters. Sounds familiar? Well,  yes book-crossing has finally landed in Ukraine, which means: leave a book in a public place to let it be picked up by others, and once finished reading, put it back for the next ready.  Nicely done NGO people, below you can see from YouTube an advert of this action.

20/09/2010   Summer went as fast as it was hot

They say time flies when you are busy, but the also say that when its really hot you don't really feel like doing anything. Both apply to NGO People from Kiev. As summer must have gone by pretty fast, seeing the activities they were involved in, outdoor camps, workshops, youth exchanges... do these "People" have weekends? but lets go in order.

Ukrainians are familiar with a popular national holiday, Constitution Day on the 28th of June, and what better way to celebrate the day of freedom and independence of Ukraine, than by making a tent camp for their members by the Desna river, and clean its banks. Hats off to such an initiative, not only safeguarding the environment but also teaching-by-doing the principles of responsibility, citizenship and participation.

Not much time passes until yet another tent camp is set, after all what better way to fight over 35° moist temperatures than that of using the great outdoors and amazing sceneries of Ukraine. This time its Poltava, the annual festival of folk crafts and art "Vio Kobeliaky", and seems NGO People is quite keen of crafts workshops with its volunteers, who turned up to create a horse of plastic bottles found in the rubbish and covering it in hay, and present it to the festival organisers as a present, since the hay horse is the symbol of their festival. The rest of the time their volunteers spent the rest of the time with artisans and craftsmen exhibiting at the festival learning about their art and traditions.

Autumn seems pretty busy too, a media campaign "show your city" at national level, using video presentations to let Ukranian youth know more about their country. Taking part in the upcoming youthNET4News large media event in Sofia (Bulgaria) , taking part in Youth in Action training course on youth participation in Russia, Management, Money and Marketing training course also in Russia. Sounds promising for many more news coming from NGO People in the coming months.

20/09/2010 From the Armenian Peaks Blossoms Stepanavan Youth Centre

Lets all give a hearty welcome to SYC, Stepenavan Youth Centre, our brand new youthNET partner in Armenia, now youthNET is also in the South Caucasus region. By the following article concerning news coming from Stepenavan, we can say they are active or could almost say , Hyperactive, and we think that this page regarding EECA will be greatly enriched by their presence and activities. Well done guys and girls, keep on inspiring.

We have heard that one of SYC's specialities is training, coaching and empowering, and for sure they make use of their strengths, just think of the long term project GLOW, aimed at empowering girls in leadership skills, a series of long term seminars and coaching as well as a period of putting knowledge into practice. Go girl-power!

SYC also managed to demonstrate that a youth NGO can tackle a series of topics and concerns of society where the answer is:  Participation = Solution. That's right! and while on one hand they are working on empowering women, on the other hand they are also raising awareness of the public towards environmental issues, how? by taking part in the World Water Monitoring Day and involving the local youngsters. What is this initiative? well we will not tell you, but will tell you where to find more about it, enjoy your reading. http://www.worldwatermonitoringday.org/

That's it? of course it isn't, if those two are the main dishes of this summer's SYC's activities, you should also check out the side dishes, M3 Management, Money, Marketing training course in Russia (Heard of that already?) Freestyle Facilitation Training Course in Crimea, Serbia youth exchange on volunteerism, Moldova youth exchange on self expression through Dance.
Now, be honest, if you were living in Armenia, wouldn't you be rushing already to become a Stepanavan Youth Centre Volunteer?

 20/09/2010 From Russia with Motivation

From the Armenian peaks north again, to the peaks of Moscow building overseeing all Russia, and welcome to the activities of New Eurasia Foundation. a truly 360° organisation, working at grassroot in the North Caucasus region for the inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities, unaware often of what possibilities they have at their disposal, to leading workshops on democracy and law in high schools throughout Russia through their network of volunteers and educators. At the same time delivering information on freedom of speech, keeping up a migration barometer, and promoting territorial development through the active participation of citizens in building their future. Now that we could call, one hundred birds with one stone!

and this is not all, New Eurasia in view of its North Caucasus development iniatitives has created a new portal, on the existing conflicts and social situations in the region, as well as giving a big space to peace and reconciliation initiatives, inspiring others, and giving visibility to the real peacebuilders existing among NGO workers, teachers, journalists etc... the portal is http://www.conflictu.net/ Yet be warned, if you are not a Russian speaker it might be quite hard to understand the content, unless of course you have the patience to use Translate.ru, and cope with the grammatical interpretation mistakes made by online translators. Enjoy.
